About Us

The Bernard Mizeki Interstate Group is a vibrant community of Zimbabwean Anglican Church members from across Australia and New Zealand who come together to celebrate the life and legacy of Bernard Mizeki, an African martyr and missionary.

Our History

Bernard Mizeki was born in Mozambique in 1861. As a young man, he moved to Cape Town, South Africa, where he was educated at an Anglican mission school. He was baptized in 1886 and became a dedicated catechist. Bernard later moved to Mashonaland East Province, Zimbabwe to serve as a missionary among the local people.

On June 18, 1896, during the Mashona uprising, Bernard was attacked outside his hut (house). Despite having the opportunity to flee, he chose to remain with the people he served. Bernard was martyred for his faith, and his unwavering commitment to his mission has inspired generations of believers.
